I have background music on one of the pages on my site. The background music only works in Internet Explorer. Does anyone know why it won't work in Foxfire Mozilla?

welcome Diane to CF.

please post your code so someone can try to help. the coding requirements of IE are different from FF as far as I know but, there is a sticky on the multimedia forum, which may have your answer. Its about 1oom pages long though.

Foxfire Mozilla? Is it backwards day? ;)

You are using deprecated code. bgsound and embed are both outdated; we favour object or audio (once it's sorted out) now.

However, I will not provide you with a way of doing this because you should not inflict people with background music. Users hate this. There is no way to turn it off, and they did not ask for it in the first place. Leave the idea alone. (:

well i have a tick box that allowes people to listen to it or not as its an include of a users choise of music(they choose thier own from a different upload site) that they can then type in and use but others have the option to hear peoples music or not :)

I have used Firefox since it came out and never have had any problems with it or any other browser playing any media file for me. You MUST you the correct media player code for the browsers and not get really sloppy by trying to use the old Netscape embed tag. Use the object tags and the latest player coding.

For flash media, the flash plug-in is browser SPECIFIC and you may not have it installed for FF. Mozilla allows you to check all plug-ins as to whether they are updated or not from Tools>Add-ons>Plugins tab. You should also have JavaScript enabled as many sites (YouTube for one) will only deleliver video if JS is turned on.

Check the Flash version you currently have installed: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Update: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

The Flash player is BROWSER SPECIFIC so be sure you install the correct one.

Although some of these sites are still writing the worse media code, you may be able to get an idea of the structure:

For specific players, like Quicktime, see their site for code to use.
