View Full Version : Language Choice

I created a site using ASP.net with a MySQL database for the back end. It is just a site that I wanted to use to help me get more famaliar with both technologies. I wanted to put it online just for fun, but I found that ASP hosting is considerably more expensive than PHP or CGI. My question is, which language should I use to replace the ASP? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

The two most common languages used are ASP and PHP. If you are not going to use ASP then try out PHP. Perl has been around since the dawn of time but it is going(has gone) the way of the dinosaurs. That and Perl has a much steeper learning curve.

PHP is much like C++/Java/Javascript. VBScript/ASP is well not really like anything else.

PHP and MySQL go hand in hand and usually come standard on linux hosting. It is much cheaper as PHP is open source which means the host isn't paying Microsoft some ridiculously huge price to use their software which means they can offer the hosting for much cheaper.
