Pen tool in Illustrator question

I've created a shape with the pen tool in Ill with a stroke weight of 3. When I increase the size however, the weight becomes smaller. Isn't there a setting somewhere that will force the shape to be proportionate upon resizing?

If you enlarge it, it will look thinner because 3 is a smaller percent of the larger pic than the smaller one. The weight stays the sme just different proportionally? If you want it to look thicker in the larger one you may need to use a larger number or redo it in the larger version. My hypothesis. could be wrong.

Actually, I found a setting in Ctrl-K (Preferences) -> Scale Stroke and Effects. In my opinion, this should have been checked by default.

Under your TRANSFORM window on your screen (if you don't see it go under window > transform) and you can click on the little > at the top right of the window. Under there you can select and deselect the 'scale stroke & effects at will'. You do not want it permanetely as there will come a time when you need the stroke to stay the way it looks (without outlining it) however you blow it up and shrink it. Hope that helps... it is better to do it this way than change your preferences. It's the ol' advanced user way there:)
