I took a beginning java course my first semester, last year. I wasnt making very good grades in it and finally was lucky to pass. Now next year i want to take the advanced version, this time i will really try. I was wondering what I can do to review, such as tutorials. I am also looking for a good Java IDE that is free.

try redoing all your old code....look at the header and get the assignment and since there are tons of ways to do everything you could re-write them all over, without looking at the old versions...

to find a free compiler your best bet would be to search the internet... www.Yahoo.com

if your still looking for a compiler, you might want to try the search in this forum. I know this question has been brought up many times from many people. So try that, and then it might not help to know what platform/OS you are planning on running this compiler...

the compiler comes with jdk and is free, so compiler is not a problem.
do you have a book saved from your course? you could try going through the book and doing the exersices if there are any. re-writing your old assignments is a brilliant idea.
you might want to review the tutorials at http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/ as well as just read the developer forums on sun's web site. you might not be able to answer questions, but i bet you can remember and learn a whole lot by just reading and asking questions about stuff you don't understand.
