Hi!
I would like thah detail ASP error mesasge would appear if there is an error on the page. Well it used to have been so on my computer, but now there is simple "Page cannot be displayed" mesage in case of errors.
What can I do to correct that. I'm using Windows XP Pro and under web configuration (debugging) "Send detailed ASP Error Messages to Client" is selected.
Thans for your answers.

Are you using Internet Explorer?
Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>
uncheck "Show friendly HTTP error messages"
I'm not certain this is your problem since "Page cannot be displayed" can mean a lot of things. It can't hurt though.

I'd bet that the "Show Friendly HTTP errors" is the problem, why some idiot at MS thought it would be "friendly" to remove all the useful information from the error page and to make it the default option in the browser is beyond my understanding.

One my computer at work I had that off of course and some how it got magically turned back on one day and it drove me nuts why it wouldn't tell me where my error was until someone reminded me about that option.
I don't see the point of it. Just always show the detailed messages, if you are the developer you'll care and understand them but if you are the end user, then you probably could care less (except of course that the page doesn't load).

If you're the end-user and you're calling me to help you with the page one of the first things I'm going to have you do is turn off that option so you can give me the information that'll allow me to help you.

Exactly. Leave it M$ to do something dumb.

The only thing I can think of is that MS did it to hide errors from the majority of users. If it is turned off by default then most people won't see the small chunk of code (possibly a password) and the error message when they go to your page and it generates an error.
Of course, you can throw that all out the window because anyone who knows what to do with that information will probably already have the friendly errors turned off.
Who knows?
Well, in dutch, we'ge got a saying like "Beeing friendly doesn't cost a cent" so i guess Micro$oft isn't interested in being friendly. In IE 7 they are going to set the default to "show sponsored errormessages".
(Of course, as a developper, you can always turn on the Microsoft Script Debuggerto view the errormessages, within the execupted script)

Now that I uncheck that option error messages are displayed.
But the "format" of error messages is the same as in Personal Web Server, not that of IIS - just the message, no fancy explanatin that page cannot be displayed.
It doesn't bother me, but I find it very interesting, as error messages were displayed in "IIS format" till a week ago.
