now I got this old emachines right here, but I don't get some of the lingo for it...in the specs it read Intel 810 Chipset, 100 MHz FSB, and I figured that was the MB, but what does that tell me about the RAM I can put on it? Cause I put 256MB PC133 SDRAM on the board and it wont recogize it since it has 2 sticks of 64MB PC100 SDRAM. Is there a compatibility issue here or is it just me?

Knowing eMachines *shutters* the motherboard probably only supports 256megs of RAM total. I have a friend that has one of a similar vintage and thats the case with his eMachine.

The PC133 stuff will slow down to PC100 levels for the 810 chipset too.

When I put in the 256MB stick then try to turn on the machine the computer wont even boot, the monitor doesn't show anything...the model is T1090...how can I find out the crap this thing is in?

You pulled all the other dimms out right?

If so and it still doesn't work. The dimm could be bad. Try it in another computer and if it doesn't work then it's probably faulty.

I pulled all other dimms...the only thing is this dimm is brand new, so I will have to get the time to rip open another computer to find out whether it works or not...

in case anyone else has to deal with emachines and upgrading, best to look it up. For my perticular model here, the memory can't be faster than PC100 and it can only support up to 256MB of it. So its pretty sad. CPU on the other hand can go either P3 1.0Ghz or Celeron 1.0Ghz, but to me thats not worth it on a POS such as this. So, just FYI for people...
