What are the tiff groups and how to the groups/ compression methods differ?

I am researching how the filesize of tiffs are changing compression methods after being accqiured by our scanning software.

Does anyone know anyone/website that explains the different groups?

I would try searching at http://www.adobe.com or if you have Photoshop I think there is a brief explination in the user guide.
