View Full Version : SMTP Server
How would I set up a personal SMTP server on my system...not for free email or anything, just so that I could send out test messages and test some scripts using the mail() function in php. I have been looking at some software like the Mdaemon, but that seems like some fully fledged server, which I don't need.
Thanks for your help
If u ever find out about one, let me know what it is!:D
Will do so. I've just posted the same question on SitePoint...Hopefully I'll get a response either here or there :)

if your using IIS why not use the built in smtp server ?
Well, I'm using Apache, I'm not sure if that runs on IIS, or if there is a built in SMTP. If so, can you provide a link to somewhere that shows how to set it up? Only if it uses Apache though.
I think I may have found a site with some server software, but I think you have to pay for it... http://netwinsite.com/ and heres another thing that lets you have an outgoing smtp server: http://www.postcastserver.com/ . Hope that these help, and I will keep on googling!
All right, I'll take a look at the Post Cast Server, but right now I'm looking at the MS Help for the built in SMTP. That might work for me, since I just need to link it to PHP. Also, I don't think I would want to pay because its just for testing purposes anyway.
Same here, Im looking for something that I can get for free, just so I can test stuff out and everything..

i suppose you could use your ip address i think as you can email your self by using 127.01.01 after the @ part.
