preserving layer syles when copying.

Is there a way to preserve the blending option layer styles if i copy a layer from one document to another? for example, i've got a picture with a shadow, stroke and bevel and I want to paste it into a new file with those exact settings (without going though the hassle of saving it as a new file)?

You should be able to just drag and drop that layer and the blending options and settings for that layer should move with it. If you are talking about Photoshop anyways.......

Layer > Duplicate.. > New (or select an existing one).

or

right click layer and select 'Duplicate Layer...'
This is irrelevant but you can also copy/paste layer styles.
