link check - redirect script

hi, having a bit of trouble
i'm after the code whereby the user types in their url into a box presses submit and the cgi file searches that url they imput and checks for a certain piece of code (ie a link back) then takes the user to differing pages based on whether it found the code or not.

Is the script searching databases for these urls? or are there just like 3 urls so no need for a database?
