Hi,
I'm setting up MySQL, Apache and PhP on my pc - Win98, 128meg to work on a project.
My problem is this - I have installed MySQL and find that if I go into it via the DOS prompt (C:/mysql/bin/mysqld) it takes at least 10 minutes before the C:/mysql> prompt appears and I can start using it ... this I'm sure is not right ? I have tried with the mysql admin tool but it too takes ages to load ???
Any ideas ?
Thanks & regards,
hp.
Did you check what processes are runing on your machine? (+ is this a slow machine, do you have enough RAM and free diskspace? --> on my developmentmachine (400 Mhz, 192 MB RAM) it doesn't even take a second to open the commandline.

Hi raf !
my machine is 600Mhz, 128 MB RAM and has plenty free diskspace. Maybe it is the processes running ??? If I don't have any other applications running it still takes ages for the commandline to appear ...
Doubt it's the anti-virus (AVG) running in the background that is slowing it down ?
GRRRRR !!!
Try typing in, "C:\mysql\bin". That worked for me. I dont think that "C:/mysql/bin" exists...

Are you opening a command prompt window and then navigating to that folder and typing the command or are you double clicking on the batch/executable file in that directory and then it takes 10 minutes for it to open?

Spookster,
I am opening the command prompt window and then navigating to the folder and typing the command ... 10min later the MySQL prompt appears.
I have tried to close everything down so that only the bare essentials are running on my pc but it still takes no less than 10 minutes.
???
