That's what people have been wanting to know for awhile now - actually in an even larger sense of What is .NET?

.NET is great but I wonder if it is not just like a jail... I regret now not to have choosen JAVA when I have started learning programming

I am a bit afraid of the futur of microsoft ....

Java is the same sort of jail from a different vendor, Sun owns Java and they are extremely territorial about it.

The key thing to keep in mind is flexability, once you've learned to program in a language picking up a new language is a lot easier since you've already learned the concepts of logic and structure. Most languages are similar enough you can go from one to another easily enough. Don't label yourself as a ".NET Programmer" or "PHP Programmer", label yourself as an "Experienced Programmer" instead.

yes certainly you are right .... and to change from vb net to C# is not difficult at all if you know well net platform,

....to change for java seems a bit different ....
