Completely true, and don't worry if whatever you do isn't great, we all start of pretty poor, mind you my first web page was done in notepad, and all it said was "Hello World!", heh pretty much like my first C prog.
You'll have to learn how to work with html, before you can really go into the actual design of the place, and www.w3schools.com will help you to do just that.
Have fun sami.

I second that. It's one of my favorites, it's good for reference too. I use it quite a bit.
Also remember google is your friend. There are thousands of tutorials out there on all sorts of web design stuff.

With HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP you will be able to put together almost any type of site.

http://www.brothercake.com/images/nyah.gif to notepad. Too retro for my liking ... life's much easier with syntax highlighting - I'd say go for something like TextPad or UltraEdit.

Syntax highlighting? Your kung fu is not strong! :D :D :D
Nah, I know how you feel, but i've never wanted to actually lick notepad. :p

I beg to differ ... a Zen master utilises the best tools on offer; why make life more difficult than it needs to be? The Buddha suffered for a long time to realise that he didn't have to suffer to realise that :)
The only Zen you find in a mountain is the Zen you take with you

you'll learn through time. but one esstial rule is: the bedt is never good enough. you think you got a 133t page? i could link at least ten which are much 133ter (althoug h they are made by pro grapic designers). also, never use standard config like TMR font and built in bevels. they suck

Yep.
Notepad.
No colors.
No debugging.
Uncomplicated single-mode viewing.
Support for exactly everything.

oh but to sami, do use Dreamweaver. It's good for beginners. Lets you get to see how HTML works.

yeah. hand coding. dreamweaver has a phat price tag or a an expensive lawsuit (in theory) backing it. use free software peeps (im trying to justify using GIMP when i have PS6 on my computer to myself, so don't pay attention)

That's why I work for a company that buys all the software I need. Not all companies will do that, but if you find one, stick w/ it.
Also, Dreamweaver isn't just for newbies. The coding side is totally functional, and doesn't add any extra tags to your code like Front Page does. I haven't found any program, free or otherwise, that beats it.

If you're interested in an HTML tutorial, the one I learned from was http://www.davesite.com/webstation/html
It took me no time at all to learn using it.

Check out the use of excessive nbsp which makes up half the page. (Is that from Front Page? Yikes!)
