View Full Version : Can't get a border-left to go all the way down.

I have a new page I'm working on, with a couple of left-floating DIVs inside a container.
I have a border-left on the middle DIV, but I'd like that DIV to extend all the way down to the bottom of the container so that border can be seen going all the way down.
(Make sense?)

That thin border between the left column and the "Subheading" column. In short: how do I get it to go all the way down?
I tried adding height:100% to the DIV's style it belongs to, but that didn't change anything.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Liam

You'd need to use faux columns, see http://www.addedbytes.com/content/faux-columns-for-liquid-layouts/faux1.html

Well, I appreciate the suggestion, but unless I'm mistaken about that that link's showing, this isn't going to work in my situation.
Thanks, though.

You could try adding a new div that contains the main content and the right column. Then give that column a border-left style instead of the main content div. Then the border should expand to the size of the right column or the main content depending on which is bigger.

no, you will need to use faux columns

change the background of #container to an image that is "divided" suitably to emulate the separating lines.

OK, I think I see what you mean, but doing that would force me to use set widths. I won't be able to use allow the "columns" to resize based on browser width.
Again, if I'm understanding this right.
