On my desktop I use 800 x 600, so it's quite a difference when I go from one to the other ;). Here's a link inline with this topic I thought would be worth dropping in: http://wondermill.com/sitelaunch/sl_stats.htm Nightfire 07-15-2002, 03:45 PM I use 1024 x 768 on 13" monitor :) meerkat 07-15-2002, 04:52 PM I use 1152 x 870 at 75hz Am on a Mac meerkat La Gal 07-15-2002, 05:31 PM 1024 x 786 on desktop (19" monitor) 1400 x 1050 on laptop redhead 07-15-2002, 06:29 PM 800*600... sorry, my monitor messes up any higher... honest... ;) but i use another one at 1024*768. oracleguy 07-15-2002, 07:38 PM 1152x864 @ 75Hz Then on my notebook, 1400x1050. applesauce 07-15-2002, 10:23 PM keep in mind tho that this information is not representational of the general populations. we geeks tend to have the latest and greatest! :D Vladdy 07-15-2002, 10:49 PM we geeks tend to have the latest and greatest! :D I'm using 1600x1200 80Hz refresh on 21" Sony Trinitron...... Do I get some "geek contest winner" prize???  Gordo 07-16-2002, 09:44 AM If the eBay auction I recently won goes according to plan, I'll be able to use whatever resolution feels most comfortable! It's a 21" Dell branded monitor. That means I'll have to pass along this 17" I'm using on to my sister and her family...in exchange for her 15". Hmmm....can anyone say "dual monitor setup"!? That way I'll be able to work/surf/etc on a high resolution, but still easily check my sites, etc. on an 800x600 monitor. I can't wait! mouse 07-16-2002, 01:32 PM I want a TFT personally, this 17" is huge as it is + the colour's off. It's suprises me a little that most pages look perfect at 1280x960 and presumably the most popular resolution for the masses; 800x600 many sites look very bad, even unuseable. ronaldb66 07-16-2002, 01:58 PM @work: 800x600 (15") @home: 1024x768 (17") Vladdy 07-16-2002, 02:36 PM but still easily check my sites.... on an 800x600 monitor. FYI: There is this neat little Browser Resolutions Utility (http://download.com.com/3000-2068-10106608.html?tag=lst-0-2). Sizes your browser from webTV to full screen..... oracleguy 07-16-2002, 07:47 PM Originally posted by Gordo If the eBay auction I recently won goes according to plan, I'll be able to use whatever resolution feels most comfortable! You realize it weighs over 80 pounds right? I have a 18" NEC 1810X LCD at work and whats really cool is that it rotates! So I can have it long ways up and down while in word or something and the normal way other times. bassleader 07-17-2002, 10:32 PM 1024x768 on a 13"/33cm monitor. My desk (and my wallet) is too narrow to accomodate anything larger. BL Saz 08-14-2009, 09:13 PM Just to update this thread - the link mentioned earlier in this thread : http://www.wondermill.com/sitelaunch/sl_stats.htm said that 800 x 600 was the most common - does anyone think that is still true ? Saz djm0219 08-14-2009, 10:13 PM Of course not. It's at least 7 years behind the times. IronManFan 08-15-2009, 12:15 AM 1024x768... glad to see I'm in the majority. But if my eyes get any worse, this may have to change! Apostropartheid 08-15-2009, 12:44 AM I'm at 1440 by 900. I can't stand 1024 by 768, mainly because it was designed for 15" screens. Saz 08-15-2009, 12:45 AM Of course not. It's at least 7 years behind the times. Exactly - well spotted ! ! ! So what are the current resolutions being used ? djm0219 08-15-2009, 01:01 AM 1280x800 on the laptop and 1920x1200 on the main machine. bazz 08-15-2009, 01:49 AM 17" monitor on 1024x768 - because I can see it then!! (lol apostopartheid) bazz Apostropartheid 08-15-2009, 01:51 AM Peut-etre it's time for a trip to the opticians, bazz? Saz 08-15-2009, 10:08 AM It seems that the usual suspects to go for, are 1024 x 768 - 1280 x 1024 - 800 x 600 Do any of you code specifically, so that if anyone using any of the above visits your website, your website would still look good ? bazz 08-15-2009, 10:42 AM Peut-etre it's time for a trip to the opticians, bazz? It isn't that large a text on my screen, surely? That ain't gonna be much use because it 'adjusts' with the screen resolution but it should be comparable with your own res/size. Does it appear larger than your text? bazz oracleguy 08-15-2009, 07:28 PM 2560x1024 on my main computer but the browser window is more like 1050x920. Perhaps it is time for a new poll with new options, lol. Wow have times changed... Apostropartheid 08-15-2009, 08:26 PM It isn't that large a text on my screen, surely? That ain't gonna be much use because it 'adjusts' with the screen resolution but it should be comparable with your own res/size. Does it appear larger than your text? bazz Usually, "native" on a 17" is 1152 by 864. I wouldn't be able to see without a photograph, bass, but it's comparable to me setting my 19" to 1152 by 864. BWiz 08-16-2009, 05:52 AM 1280 x 800 (16:10 widescreen @ 60Hz) 1280 x 1024 (4:3 @ 75Hz) Saz 08-17-2009, 09:34 AM Thanks for the replies on this - it's incredible the way things have chnaged ! Anyone know what would be the default res, for the pc's that Dell, HP, et al ship out ? Do any of you code specifically, so that if anyone using any of the above visits your website, your website would still look good ? bazz 08-17-2009, 09:46 AM you wanna look into fluid layout/design. off the top of my head look at css zen garden. bazz haradeep 08-18-2009, 05:58 AM 1024x768 for my 17" monitor. ckeyrouz 08-18-2009, 06:03 AM I got a 19" screen and I browse at 1440x900 because this is the maximum my graphics card has to offer. Would I have got more I would use it. effpeetee 08-18-2009, 09:11 AM 1280x1024 - wide screen monitor, I use windows sidebar to fill the width. Frank Apostropartheid 08-18-2009, 04:41 PM I personally code within about a 840 pixel width, but I would be willing to go up to 940. Any more is a bit irritating to me, in my book, because I don't browse with a full-screen window (just wastes space) and I hate having to resize just for one site. |
