onclick open template with selected image?

i want to click a thumbnail and when it goes to open the larger image, it is displayed on a template with a header. or banner.

To see what i mean visit speedoptions site (http://www.speedoptions.com/articles/3494/) and click one of the images of the car at the bottom of the page and see how it opens up another window (which seems to use a template displaying a banner and the larger image)

Where and how can this be done?:thumbsup:

javascript, create a function that sends the filename to the other popup, then the popup read the image name and resize it.

How do i create that function? And would that allow me to place that into a template.

Natrually, I dont want to have a html page for each image i have!
