I've just got my uncle's pc here and his mouse suddenly stopped working. I've tried loads of mice(?) now and none of them are working at all. The cursor isn't showing anywhere. I've enabled the function to show where the cursor is by pressing ctrl, and it always shows that the cursor is in the center of the screen

I've tried changing the cursor themes just to see if the icon files are messed up, but stilll nothing shows

Is this a usb or legacy mouse?

On the assumption it's legacy, try swapping ports with the keyboard. If you boot and find the keyboard doesn't work then you'll know it's not the mouse. In which case you'll want to clear the cmos (either with a jumper or by removing the onboard battery for a time).

If you find the keyboard works of either ps/2 port, then it's probably not a hardware problem, in which case enter Device Manager and remove any rodent drivers (control panel => system) reboot, hope that indows reinstalls the mouse.

Is it a branded mouse btw, like a 5 button thing, or just generic? Could probably find some new drivers for it either way, I'm thinking it could be ME being a tart with the drivers...

It's just a normal 2 button mouse, the standard ones you get with old pc's. It WAS working fine until I uninstalled aol8 from his pc and put freeserve on. Loads of things have been messing up since then, all drivers near enough - sound, graphics etc, rebooting on it's own - think I solved everything but the darn mouse :S

I'll try the port switching and stuff, I'm running out of ideas

I fixed it (lol @ fix). I threw the mouse across the room, plugged it back in and it now works :D

I've done that before  Should be in the manual really, "If mouse becomes unresponsive, throw off the nearest wall":D
