I'm looking to install anti-virus software on my computers before my next subscription runs out in Sept (I have 5 Windows computers and I'm getting tired of the annual fees for all of them).

Anyone recommend a good - FREE - antivirus program that's available for WinXP, Windows Vista and Windows 7?

Thanks.

I recommend Comodo Internet Security, includes Antivirus, Fireweall, Spyware Blocker, and a Sandbox area. I've been using it for years and my system is still clean. If you just want Antivirus, the new version of Avast is pretty good.

I'd recommend Avast

also a free firewall

what I'd really recommend doing though is being careful on the internet and connecting to the internet through a router

Clam-AV is the open-source anti-virus.

I've never had a problem with AVG, has it fallen out of favor?

I Actually use Clam-av on my personal and work system (Ubuntu), and use it to scan stuff before I send it on to windows users if I am suspicious of it

I did used to recommend AVG actually, but I stopped due to constant popup nags about upgrading to payed... And Avast is actually better IMO anyhow

No one program is enough to catch all the malware on your computer. Recommend scanning with these one at a time.

I have been using AVG Free for years and have not had a single issue with it yet. I have tried others as well but was not satisfied. And I don't see any nagging popups with AVG Free.

Avira is also a good free anti-virus. Fast, small and accurate.

Only downside is a image display with every startup, reminding you that the paid version is better

.....reminding you that the paid version is better

If you have a lot of important file to protect, i think paid/full version AV software is still alot better. They will gladly help us if something bad happen to our computer
