View Full Version : Tweaking my browser code to work for Opera

I am using absolute positioning for my images/text; which seems to work darn good in just about every browser but opera! Ideas? All the XHTML and CSS checks out through W3, and I don't see anything out of the ordinary in my code, but:

1. home (http://www.dotfive.com/belairedisplays/index.html) - the front text seems to not line up at the tops to all three... this seems to work fine in all browsers 4+ except Opera (mac and pc). I tried changing the px to em for the css font size, but that did nothing.

2. subpages (http://www.dotfive.com/belairedisplays/main/contact.html) - The images that display the menu navigation on the left are completely gone (I imagine that they are hidden behind the top image) -- but there doesn't seem to be anything funky going on with the code, again.

If you have opera, take a look for me please... I haven't heard of any problems with opera's standards, they usually seem to be up to par, but I don't know for sure.

There is supposed to be a navigation like such:

覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧
products > | who we are > | contact > |
覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧

on the left hand side, with a javascript rollover that brings out a submenu of options. Kinda like:

覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧
products > | who we are > | contact > |
覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧覧
in-store : outdoor : ...more.

But the images for Products, Who, & Contact are not showing up at all.

I can post a pic if you'd like?

if you mouse over products> you get the css roleover but nothing else.

if you post a pic i will comapre it to what i see in opera.

very similair, the only difference is after the email button there is no more content and the email button sits on the scroll bar.

and the letters have a bigger spacing.

:D ...was thinking the same thing -

Are you 800x600 res? I can see that the site window is small, but the only thing it looks like in your clip is that there isn't any navigation at all on the top left!! Evil.

This is the second time I've had issues with Opera, using absolute positioning... however, it doesn't have problems with anything else on the page!

I'm going to go through my code with a fine tooth comb and see if I put anything in there absolutely odd.

yep i have a res of 800X600.

if you go to opera.com and somewhere it gives hte specs of what html etc. opera supports.

Maybe the XHTML then, because it doesn't look as though it has the full support yet, but it should downgrade okay... alright, I'll do some more hunting... thanks for all your help scoots, I really appreciate:thumbsup:

Opera said that it is not 100% with it's support for XHTML and CSS-2... this is from the Customer Support Center too, mind you, so who knows.

They have had little answers as to why this is happening, and they've checked my script -- said it was fine, so who knows.

If you have any other ideas, I'm all eyes.

GOT IT!!! Evil little bugger -- I had 1 space extra in each image tag and it screwed it up.

I loaded it for our company, here's the final site:

total post number so far (inc. origianl) = 22?

it looks alright except for the bootm line of text sits on the scroll bar, as in one of my preivous posts. An extra line would possibley make it look better.

Holy hell --- I saw that too, and I am editing it, par your notice, as we speak... but I probably won't upload it until version 2.0... there's a lot of pages in here that could easily be cut down, so I'm trying to persuade the owners to do so; othewise, it looks like we are just trying to fill up space.

Thanks Scroots for your help!
