My computer was previously owned by a store and that is fine as I got a discount but the store has its name on most of the settings and I dont know how to change this name, other than reset factory settings. Can anyone help?
I am able to change the system proerties, but I think that the system profiles need changing in the registry and there I am lost.

Can you be a little more specific with what you are after? It sounds like you just need to create a new user and get rid of the one the store created. Of course you need to be careful to keep admin rights.

Click the start orb, go to control panel and select "User Accounts". From there you should be able to create new accounts as well as delete existing ones.

thanks for getting back to me but it still does not change the profile of the computer. It still says the store name

Please take a screenshot of where you see the store name. It could be a matter of just changing the computer name as opposed to creating/deleting accounts.

Choose left hand "post reply" - Most of it is self evident.

The setup panel is underneath the reply box.

I really do not know what you are trying to say. How is that helpful to me? There is no set up panel beneath the reply box for images.

Initially elect the LEFT hand reply option Post Reply.

It is the owner of the computer that is causing the store name to appear, so how can I change the owner of the computer?

You can change the owner but if you are seeing it everywhere then its just a user account so do what was already suggested. This will allow you to change the computer name if you know how to edit the registry.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/quick-tip-change-the-registered-owner-in-windows/

I take no responsibility if you mess up your system when trying the above.

Hi
This looks like is what I want but I have a query and wonder ifyou can help,. this is the path in the registry that is suggested

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

It says Window NT, my computer is a home computer so I wonder if I would use this option or the Windows option. I have a windows 7 installation with 64 bit. No other computers are connected to it, but it is on the home workgroup

I have learned how to change the computer name, but now the storename is still there, as it comes under
C:\\users\storename, so I need to remove the profile, I dont know if it would be best just to restore to factory condition as I do not have many documents on the computer.
