I have 2 content boxes side by side, the one on the right using float:right. The right box has more height due to how much stuff is in it, I was wondering if there's anyway to automatically make the left box the same exact height as the right box.

There are a couple tricks to getting equal height columns, faux columns (http://nopeople.com/CSS/faux_columns/index.html) is one, have a look at one I came up with (http://nopeople.com/CSS/fluid_width/index.html) too.
Does that help?

So do I just need to add the background: url(sidebar.jpg) repeat-y left; & background: url(sidebar.jpg) repeat-y; really? Because I added those 2 and yes I changed the image location to the one I want to use and what not, but it still stayed the same.

So do I just need to add the background: url(sidebar.jpg) repeat-y left; & background: url(sidebar.jpg) repeat-y; really? No. They are applying the background image to the container element of both the columns.
