Opening word from a web page

I am designing a Intranet page which represent a flow chart. By selecting a "box" on the chart i can get a specific word template to open. However this appears to be in the IE environment and not word. I am using frames and the template opens up in one of the frames. I would like to know how to open a word template in Word inself and also, when i want to "Save As" populate the file name & file type fields.
