when I open a new file (file > new) or an existing image, suddenly I am getting a grey 01 and an envelope icon in the top left corner of the image. This is some thing to do with the slice tool I think. This is so annoying and I want to get rid of this. How can I do this?

If your in imageready, you can do this (and I believe it is the same otherwise) -- go to edit > preferences > slices

In the top bar select 'show lines only'... or you can select 'none' in the section that says 'numbers and symbols'

Thanks bradyi. I found it in photoshop. It is under edit > preferences > Guides grids & lines. Here check the uncheck box show slice numbers. But I still see a dot dot line in the edge of the images. This is the slice line color. I dont know how to remove it. There is no option for it to be removed

:)

Can't you go under view and select 'hide slices'?
