Today, Microsoft announced it will only support the H.264 codec for HTML5 video. Only Safari does the same but can, and probably will, support Ogg or VP8.

Today is the day you will tell your grandchildren about. The very day Microsoft killed Internet Explorer.

Oh Microsoft. You got caught!

Microsoft is part of the patent pool on H.264.
Microsoft's codec is for non-commercial use only and other uses require paying royalties.

Nasty things to cover up MS.

I donít know whether using just H.264 codec for videos in Html 5 will boost the growth of Microsoft. As a matter of fact it may actually only help rather than decrease the reputation of Microsoft. Besides the codec of Microsoft is mainly for non commercial purposes and Microsoft being part of the patent tool on H.264 it will definitely boost the growth of Microsoft. Thatís what I think after all! Who knows! May be Microsoft may finally be back for its rematch against Apple!
