I had been having problems with DW for some time after getting an error that certain functions are not available or do not exist.

most from the toolbar functions.

after looking around i found a slight fix by renaming a file toolbars.xml or something like that.

this seem to fix the issue but now i do not have any toolbars.

so in the end after many hours backing up the whole pc i reinstalled my pc completely! (distructive install)

then installed everything one by one and found that DW seem to be ok again, but after doing all the windows updates it seems to have caused the issue to come back, but i can not comfirm that it was an update that caused this to go wrong again as i had not used DW enough to find this out.

so again i get this windows alert pop up box saying that the functions are not valid or available.

does anyone know why this is happening after all these years of using DW with no problem at all. and more importantly how do i fix this so DW works as it should work in the first place.

hope someone has an answer as i can not find anything else online to sort this out.

You can try deleting the configuration folder. You will lose any personal settings though such as the view of your windows and components. I'm not sure where this folder is for MX. What OS are you running? Also you do know that Dreamweaver is up to version 10, soon to be 11.

What i would really like is for my version to work like it always has for years ever since i first got it. the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it!"

i reinstalled the pc completely, formatted the drive the works and still i get the same thing after getting the usual windows updates and stuff.

could be one of the updates is more likely the reason i am having this problem.

but it has taken me like a week to do this install and setting up pc to working standards i need.

now all for nothing, i thought it may have been so corupt file or something so gave up and reinstalled the whole thing again.

does anyone know how i can get this file, i have found stuff online that says to rename the toolbars.xml file to toolbars.xml.bak and this solved the problem in that i now do not have any toolbars at all!! not good then i rely on them to work efficiently.

if i delete the config folder does it reinstall it again afresh ?

my main goal is to have the toolbars back working.

cheers for your reply and help.

Yes it should get regenerated. I asked you what OS you had so I could hopefully tell you where the configuration folder was. I was just letting you know that you can expect legacy software to keep on working. Clearly its not working anymore for you so it might be time to move on. I've been using Dreamweaver since MX and a lot has changed.

I am using Windows XP

I have just tried to delete the config folder at...

C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX\Configuration

but this caused DW to ask for a reinstall, which I have already previously tried and this did not work then.

also looking around the net i found some people saying that this problem was caused by a Windows Update for IE6 to 7. I was going to uninstall this update but it could cause problems for everything else i have installed since, so it says.

Thanks for your help on this
