Hi guys,

I am having problems installing an epson c62 printer on a windows 98 machine.

I installed the software / drivers etc as normal. Printed the test oage to make sure it was ok. That was fine so I decided to try and print a colour photgraph. It got about 2 secs in and stopped and the computer crashed.

I tried numerous other printing jobs but the same thing happened. It got so far, the computer crashed and it stopped.

I have tried re-instaling it several times and removing the old printers. But the same thing happens.

Has anybody ever experienced such a problem ???

Any ideas on what might be causing this ??

Its a long shot but I know you guys normally know your stuff :D

Alot of times this can have an effect on how you print... By the sounds of things, it seems like you may be spooling your jobs... Try sending them directly to the printer...

I encountered numerous problems with my Epson, I found I had to re-install the drivers every time I needed to print, it literally wouldn't print two documents in a row.

Try disabling all other programs running in the background then printing.

Hi guys,

I have been doing some testing and when I print using the usb cable it is fine but when I use parrellel cable it crashes.

Is there a difference in the way the data is stored and sent to the printer between usb and parallel ??

I also thought at the time my grandads pc had 128mb ram, but it turns out it is only 64mb. (oops should of checked really :p)

So I am thinking, maybe thats whats wrong.
Do you think the same ??

Oh and why is it that in the system properties box it says 56mb when there is a 64mb stick inside. Is some ram being taken up straight away by something else ??

:p

USB is serial, parallel is, parallel, doh! :p:D

If I were you I'd keep it usb if parallel is unstable, most printers these days are usb anyway. ;)

If the machine has onboard graphics, then there will be an allocation of system ram, to the graphics 'card'.

oh yer stupid me.

is there anything you suggest checking.

I could really do with getting it to work on parallel, if I could because there are only 2 usb ports on the machine and it would save buying a hub or usb card.

do u think it could be the amount of memory ?

with usb it prints directly to the printer and with parallel it uses the memory alot does't it or am I being stupid again !! ha :p

Well, firstly I'd look at spooling. Look for some settings on spooling and try it disabled or "print after last page has spooled" or whatever.
