personal icons

This may be a silly question but does anyone know how to make your own windows icons.

I have used bmp images before and they work ok, but I what I would like is to have some with transparent sections instead of the icon on top of a colored square.

I have tried using gif's and png's but there just not working

you can search the web for other icons or just for a program for icons. there are a lot, but i also think microangelo is the best

The only free program for saving icons and cursors is Imagedit/Aniedit if you can find it.These work but it doesn't make TRUE icons.

If it detects the first color on the left side of the icon to be white, black or grey, it will make that the transparent color.
