I have been using AOL instant messenger for a while now, and I must say I was surprised to find something that good from such a company ...

There are other Im programs like MSN IM, Jabber, ...

Does someone have any info on any differences there might be like:
- the bandwidth they require
- the RAM they need
- size of the program
- security
- special features
- ...

Cheers
Fred

Well MSN with the MSN Plus addon does a lot more than AIM does, which is about all I can say. Oh and chances are that MSN is more secure than AIM, but mind you I have heard of people having their conversations tracked on it.

i think msn and aol are some of the best IM clients. of course you can try others like icq (http://web.icq.com- it has a lot of services!!!) or y! mess (messenger.yahoo.com), huminity (www.huminity.com).. Some IMs lets you to import user lists from other programs. for example Eyeball Chat (www.eyeball.com) is specialized in video and audio conferences.

Here are some other IM internet addresses:
Sonork Client- www.sonork.com
Trillian- www.ceruleanstudios.com (i think is the best program who is specialized in importing user lists- contacts- from msn, yahoo, aol and irc clients)
Socket - www.getsocket.com (chat, games etc.)
IM Anywhere - www.im.att.net
Odigo - www.odigo.com - the "leader" of IMs

You'll chose the one who best suits your interests.
Idon't know about the resources (RAM) they need or disk space...bla..bla

At one point I used aim, msn, and icq all at once. With three programs going at once, It got annoying real fast.

So I downloaded Trillian. It combined the five big ones (AIM, MSN, ICQ, Yahoo, and IRC) into one program.

I used any other program since.
