I like WordPress as a first-time CMS because its learning curve is fairly low and it's flexible enough to be customized to do pretty much everything.

I found WP to be great easy to setup and forces you to understand css and php to customize it and tons of plugins.

ive just taught myself html css css2 php (too basic for the moment) and how mysql works... i think the next thing is to intregate everything with wordpress and then you'll learn the bits that you question in your mind...

dedication is the freaking goal... man this is taking too freaking long... but getting there... now im worried that the code can be easily stolen of web pages... which will suck eggs!

Your web hosting account may have an auto-installer available for Wordpress (Fantastico, etc), so check if one is available via your account's control panel. This can save you a lot of time with setup.

Yah I'm going to toy around with wordpress loads, see how I can pull info from it and then try and build my own customised version of wordpress... I don't have a time limit on this I think its more of a learning curver.

Yah i've been using bluehost for my installation of wordpress... but i have prefered to install it on a local machine for speed and to avoid mixing it up with the live server.

WordPress is great, because with Fantastico I know I can do a one-click install and it is really straight :)
