Hi. I configured my Outlook Express for viewing my Hotmail account e-mail. The biggest problem I have is with space limitations, at Hotmail only gives 2 MB. Is it possible for - and since I'm only going to use Outlook Express from now on, and not Hotmail's web-based system - configuring the program so every incoming e-mail is loaded and somewhat onto my harddrive, and it doesn't have to be saved on the server (Hotmail), that way I can have as many megabyte-heavy e-mails as possible and I won't have to worry about limitations.

I think this is the way it worked with my old ISP (Pacbell) e-mail since I had probably gigs of e-mails I never deleted and never had a problem with space limitations (when I worked in OE).

for that you would want to do a POP3 since it would d/l the emails from the server to your HD and thus give you a limitaion of your HD as far as space. IMAP if that is what you are using, just downloads but leaves them on the server. I don't know much about the hotmail OE email setup but I know your account can get deleted if you don't log in. And there would still be file limitaions because the emails are stored on the hotmail server before being transfered to your comp. You might want to look into using yahoo or something, their space is 6mbs vs that 2mbs at hotmail, though I thought it was more....

How can I set Outlook to use POP3 on my Hotmail account?

almost the exact same way you set it up in the first place...go to Accounts and under email protocols choose POP3.

Ok got that. Now what's Hotmail's outgoing SMTP server?

don't know...you had to do it to set up your OE with hotmail in the first place...

No. When I used HTTP before, I only was provided the incoming server, which was http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp. But now with POP3, I need both.

try using the same thing twice...that sometimes works

I looked at hotmail really quick....this is what their stuff says regarding emails using POP3....

This feature is only available to subscribers to MSN Extra Storage and MSN Internet Service.

MSN Extra Storage is currently available only to residents of the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and Japan. Sign up for MSN Extra Storage.

But keep trying anyway...

here...I found what you have to do but its tedious.... and thus will get annoying....to get the directions for what you want exactly click on the "help" when logged into hotmail and in the search box type "Outlook Express" and it will have a URL for "download emails" or whatever...look at that...there isn't another way...but remember you will have to go to your inbox and delete the emails everytime.

Outlook says that's not a valid SMTP server. And it doesn't work because the account doesn't even affear of the left pane of Outlook Express when I finish!

It's probably that Microsoft wants you to pay, because they usually have a way around everything!!!

The solution which the HELP provided was okay. It said create a Folder and drag all the Inbox items to the folder. (The folder is the harddrive.) That's what I did and it's seems okay. But of course what I really wanted the the whole Inbox to be the actual hard drive.

:D

no way

1- it is possible to dowload emails from Hotmail to OE (hard drice folder created in OE). Slow, but it works. Fair enough.

2- Ever thought about changing email-address ? You wouldn't get that much spam with any other. I recommend www.fastmail.fm, although I have no shares, just because I'm so nice today :D . And you'd have 10 MB for free, not 2 MB. And no pop-ups. And nothing to do with Bill Gates. And they wouldn't trace your browser if you clic on a lind. And ....

3- You find very specific and complete help about email-related stuff at www.emailaddresses.com/forum.

hi there
you can increase the account size even if u use outlook express, bcs your mails are stored on msn (hotmail) servers, and there the limit for each user is 2 Mb. you only use outlook to take them on your computer

idea-> you can make several accounts and verify the mail with outlook express. so you will have here all the messages from your all accounts sored in inbox, all deleted items in Trash etc.

i think it's the best way
p.s.: you can chose the account you want to use for sending an e-mail message. you can use the same address book.
