I don't know if it is appropriate to post this here but i will and admins and mods, please don't ban me if i break the rules. This is my first post so bare with me.

Look at this site:

http://fantasy.cricket.com/

I wan't to make a site exactly like that and have been trying since a very long time but i am not able to. Although the site above is fantasy in cricket, i want a website exactly the same like above except fantasy in basketball. For the feeds, i can get the news feeds and others like there are in that site but i need functional site like that. Can you please help?

I will really appreciate your help.

Thank You.

Looking at their CSS file, I found this:
CSS on Sails .NET
Title: Website
Author: XHTMLized
Date: July 2008

So I Googled it, this must be the source:
http://www.cssonsails.com/

That's where their site originate from.
They probably bought the template and scripting?

Here's an idea ...
Email the cricket site owner and ask them about their site.
Most site owners would be happy to let you know where they purchased
their templates, or if they coded everything themselves.

You can copy all of their HTML and CSS and Javascripting by using the "view, source"
functions of your browser. The only thing you can't copy is any PHP or MySQL scripting.
So, you can match their look, but probably not the functioning, unless you purchase
the same scripts, or hire your own programmer.

I really suggest you come-up with your own design though.
Not much challenge or fun in just copying someone else ....
not to mention that's is not really ethical.

That was helpful, mlseim.

The thing is that i want to have the same website like that. The design and looks can be different but i want the same functionality and the features such as add friends, create a team, write on wall, latest news feed, fantasy money, etc. You can check em in the site but can you help me on how to create this site?

If they are using any PHP, MySQL, or ASP (server-side programming),
there's nothing we can do ... because we don't have any access to their database,
or any of the scripting they have.

Looks like a really big project to me. I think you'll have to hire someone.
There's a section on this forum for "web projects".

Isn't there a place where i can get scripts like the one in that site?

offcource they are running PHP... If they have those add friend, wall, teams etc - they must have php and mysql pages that you will miss in your copying life :) But everything is simple to make by your own... Without AJAX, that would be peace a cake :D

are you still there?

you could use wordpress or joomla, because they are free, but there aren't the functions u need.

Do you have a website made yet, with the layout and graphics?
Do you have everything done except for the PHP/MySQL functionality?
Show us what you already have done.

I designed my website in Microsoft Expression 3. It works perfectly with Google Chrome but has css problems in Internet Explorer.

So you don't have a webhost yet?
You have not uploaded anything yet?
We have no way to see anything?

Badsha

No, i have some thing of it but no the full site.

it is here:

http://cricketfantasy.freeiz.com/webtest/

Obviously, its horrible.
I know :(

I suggest you find a pre-made script, even if you have to pay for it,
then, design your site around the script:
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=php+fantasy+league+script&rlz=1R2ADFA_enUS351&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&fp=3ca7f77472646fa5

Auriaks thinks it will be easy to duplicate the Cricket scripts, but it won't be easy.
It will cost you money to hire a programmer. It would take a lot of time.

Try your hardest to contact the owner of the Cricket site (I couldn't find an email).
Ask them what scripts they are using. I'm sure they would share that info with you.

Why, is it not possible to do this by my own?

mlseim
03-12-2010, 01:55 AM
Of course it's possible for you to do it.

This is a quote from you in post #1:
"... and have been trying since a very long time but i am not able to."

I assumed that meant you are unable.
Maybe that means something different where you're from?

if you are trying to be funny, it is very rude. I need serious help making this site and i can't afford, or atleast not now, to pay someone to make this site.

mlseim

I'm not trying to be funny.
What you're doing is going to take many hours of work,
and it seemed like you are unable to do it, so you are asking for free help.

If you can find a pre-made script, or even something close to what you
want (that you can customize), it will save many hours of programming time.

You'll notice that nobody here has volunteered to help program it (for free).
That's because it's very time consuming to make a fantasy basketball script.

For me, or anyone else to program your scripts using this forum is insane.
Someone needs to have FTP access to your website and all account information.
And that person needs to work with you directly to put your web design HTML/CSS
together with all of the scripting. It cannot be done using your web page editor
software. You cannot run PHP scripts offline on your PC (unless you have your own
server).

CodingForums is a forum.

I think I'm giving you very good information and advice.
I respect your desire to get the project done, but this forum is not really the best venue.

Hey, friend! Sure you can do it by youself, but probably it will take some time from you - do you have it? Because you should first get some basic knowledge in php programing, for example, also you need someone to navigate you - a good and patient teacher:) But if you dont have enough time so I can advice you just to buy such template and fill it with your content - it's much quicklier. Check this link http://www.********************/templates-sports-website.html here are some samples of similar templates, you can easely customize it, just send a pm to a staff of this site. Ok, good luck now and best regards!

So basically, i should forget my dream and let it go?

mlseim

Google has all of the tutorials, script examples, and PHP/MySQL lessons that you need.
It's all free, and there's a ton of information. You'll have to sift through them and
learn PHP and MySQL ... you can also order books via Amazon.com

If you have a specific coding problem, provide us with the coding (scripts) you're
having problems with, and we might be able to help. If you expect any of us to write
the codes (scripting) for you, that probably won't happen unless you're willing to pay ...
but you already mentioned that you are not able to pay anyone (see post #17).

You have some other possible sources that you didn't mention trying yet ...

Maybe of the million programmers in the world, there might be a few that are really
interested in fantasy basketball and would be willing to "partner" with you on your
dream project. Get onto some other programming forums and start asking around.

If this forum didn't draw any interest, check out other programming forums.

Pursue your dreams.
