So I am just learning php and mysql and said why not do it by having and example and seeing how it is done. Anyway, this example went nowhere because it is actually 3 example which I cannot intertwine.

I have made the database and the php files but am not sure how to get them all together.

Creating a membership and forum script is a really big project to
"learn with". I suggest you find a smaller project first, then tackle the big stuff.
