I have grown such distane for building websites and debugging them again and agin for each browser, that I feel I need to being an end to it.

Does anybody know of a front-end technology that will deploy consistantly on all browsers? I am aware flash will do this, but its too expensive and I am trying to avoid actionscript (no employer really seems to use it, dont know why. I just want to learn a technology that is eiyther not hard, or one the employers will actually want).

I looked into OpenLaszlo which exports in the flash format, much easier languages to use and they are standard ones (xml, and javascript). But I soon discovered that it is difficult and not well documented on how to get it to work on webhosters.

I am learning java, and thought about using it as the front-end, but not sure how logical it would be to use java for the entire front-end of the web site.

So to sum my needs:
front end cross-browser consistency
cheap or free
uses standard or easy languages
Can work with php

Thanks a lot for your help

I think you mean "disdain (http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=disdain)", assuming en_us is your language.

Nothing "will deploy consistantly(sic) on all browsers" except for maybe a text file. Not even Flash: crashes on Macs, from what I hear, and isn't supported at all on mobile Safari - iPhones, iPods, and iPads).

You're asking for something that's practically impossible. Cross-browser debugging is just part of the job unless you only want to develop for a single platform/browser. And there are many dev houses that do just that - they build crap that only works on IE and are satisfied that their product can only work on 60-something percent of browsers.

Yeah, I’ll have to agree with tomws. How can you regard Flash as cross-browser compatible when it’s not even implemented in any browser by default (you need a third-party plugin in every browser – if it’s supported at all). And I haven’t even started about the accessibility and usability issues Flash is causing. And I guess other technologies aren’t much better.

If you’ve “grown disdain for building websites and debugging them again and again and again for each browser” then I’d suggest you change your job because obviously you’re not happy with it anymore.
