I have some questions about antispyware apps:
1. I know you're not supposed to run 2 antivirus apps at once, but that you CAN run 2 scanner-only antispyware apps at once. But should you not run 2 real-time-protection antispyware apps at once?
2. Other than the fact that spyware "spies", just what is the difference between a virus and a spyware app? In other words, why can you run one antivirus app at the same time as a real-time-protection antispyware app?
3. Do all antispyware that offer real-time protection constantly run in the background to prevent the installation of malware, whenever an attempt is made to open a file or launch an application? Do they all also offer manual and/or scheduled system scans?
4. Does Comodo AntiVirus + Firewall include antispyware functionality?
5. Does Spyware Terminator include antivirus functionality?

Hello. I have worked with a couple of companies (none that you listed) on their anti-virus products. I have found multiple errors occur when cross brand software's are run side by side be it an anti-virus, anti-spyware or any other. I will say now, I believe your best bet is to get an all-in-one Internet Security Suite.
1. I believe any two of the same type of product will cause some form of conflict when it comes to security software. This is because it seeks out the competitors product as a threat as it may find the quarantine folder, or some other part that it does not believe should be on the system. I would personally run only one.
2. A virus is a piece of malicious code that self-replicates. This makes it harder to seek and destroy. Viruses do not steal data, but rather open the door for spyware to get in and do it's task.
3. Most do. Some of the cheap/free ones do not, but I would not recommend going free or cheap when it comes to PC security anyway. The safer the better!
I unfortunately cannot answer questions 4 & 5 due to insufficient data, but I hope I have helped so far. If you want a cheaper licence, then I can get you a small amount off of an AVG licence. PM me for more details.
Regards.

The antispyware app is active and constantly run in the background but they are not scanning every file on your pc unless you attempts to open it. Yes ,most antispyware app offer manual and/or scheduled system scans,
you should always do a manual scan or arrange a scheduled scans to your system regularly.

I don't even use any antivirus apps I've been around long enough to know what sites and emails are malicious to not open them up.

Aside from my anti-virus I also use anti-malware. This is for malicious software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. You should have to have one.

I knew someone who was actually suspicious of spyware on their system a while back, they came and asked me about.....
Antivirus and spybot never showed anything..... One program that actually did catch a spyware program on the computer (which was manually installed by their EX btw). That antivirus and spybot never found was Spycop
