This is a question I'm sure we have all ask at one point.
After designing your site to look just the way you wanted it to,
you realize that maybe every browser can't view it the way you intended if at all.

I have looked and still looking for a site that says what a browser can and can't view. This is refering to codes ie: JavaScript, VbScript, Transparent Images ie: gif or png and Html.

The reason for me asking is I am using code that I don't believe will work in any browser other that IE and I would like to find out.

filter:alpha(opacity=75)

This is placed inside a DIV tag and will make it partly transparent.

I don't have the time or the energy to download every browser from version 4 and up to test this so I'm hoping for help

What's the URL to your site? I have 3 browsers on my comp, and don't mind checking it out for you.

And you could could go to w3c and check your code's compliance...

filters are IE proprietary; simple filters like opacity() and shadow() work in IE4 and up, while DXImageTransform filters are IE5.5 SP2 and later

But moz also has a proprietary filter for opacity - it's called -moz-opacity, eg:

element { -moz-opacity:0.75; }


btw - you don't need to consider 4-version browsers specifically anymore. Design for 5+ browsers and treat everything older as "legacy".

I really appricate the offer crubbles, to see what I am talking about you can go to www.frankthoms.freeservers.com/sample (http://www.frankthoms.freeservers.com/sample) this is an old site that I had done for myself, was a big fan of the show. If it works you should be able to see though the snake.

brothercake is {-moz-opacity:0.75; } to be entered in css or a <div> tag does it matter.

Looks the same in IE 4 as in IE 6.

Netscape 4.7 totally destroys it...

Netscape 7 you'll notice that (in addition to the opacity) the counter did not work. Take a look at screenshot attached.

It's interesting to know what the different browsers may do.
As for the script it was VBScript and I would have been surprised if it did work. Thanks for mentioning it though.
