View Full Version : Doctype for fixed position AND vertical align

I cannot seem to find a doctype that forces IE (6/7) to render fixed position elements correctly, and also allows vertical alignment of some sort. I've tried valign in the html, vertical-align in the css... nothing's working. Seems like I can only have one or the other.

Is there somewhere I can see what each doctype supports?

Doctypes are never things you pick and choose willy-nilly to fix any problems. Doctypes are the very first thing to go on a page and never change throughout the project. For new pages, that choice is always a strict doctype, too. If you're waiting till now to fix problems by adding a doctype, it's too late.

Hello jakerbug,
The dr is right, you should most likely be using an HTML 4.01 Strict DocType and there would be no need to change it.
I'm curious what you mean about only having one or the other. IE6 does not support position:fixed; (see a workaround here (http://nopeople.com/CSS/fixed_background/index.html)) and I wonder how/where you're applying vertical-align.

Can you give us a link to the test site?
