Well a lot of the stuff done on the internet are made by Photoshop, which is clearly the best image editor out there, used by us Graphics Designers for a lot of the touch ups on images made by Maya, SoftImage, 3D Studio Max, and Lightwave 3D.
You can find image galleries from the corresponding websites.
Photoshop galleries are located somewhere within the www.adobe.com website.

First, could you please not [IMG] link large image files, it is a strain for all 56k users, as you have attached well over 600kb worth of images.
Second, the first two images are easily done alone with Photoshop, using mutliple layers, shadow effects, and liquid/chrome effects, and that is about it. Have a look through the online tutorials page for some tutorials on how to do them.
The third was not done in photoshop alone, more than likely, maybe a little 3D Studio Max, or Lightwave use was made there, and the rest was more than likely touched up with photoshop using color dodge/burn effects.
cool...thanks for sorry reply and sorry about before...i am going to edit the post now.. :)

Strata 3D studio has an easier learning curve for 3D design -- Lightwave 6 is a little complicated but worth the learning curve.
Photoshop is the preferred tool over Corel's Photo Paint (though Corel has more filters in it's stock initially) -- and Illustrator is preffered over freehand and Corel Draw.
Why? Some argue it industry standard -- Photoshop and Illustrator are used by most people -- and by almost all the professionals. Corel and Freehand are good for some people on PC's -- but they are limited in use, and not universally compatible. Every version of Corel that comes out has some major flaws -- Freehand is dying because it is not as flexible as Illustrator when it comes to add ons.
If you want cheaper, corel will work. If you want more quality, use the adobe products. Web products are, as always Macromedia's realm... but they seem to suck on the print end of the scale.

It's like I always say. Try NeoPaint. There's a DOS and Windows version, but I prefer the DOS version because it has a custom GUI. This image was made with NeoPaint. Everyone loves it ^_^.

It really depends on what you are trying to do --
I have played very little with Bryce and Maya (if anyone has better input here, give me a heads up), and those programs seem to be built to do 3D landscapes.
Strata 3D Studio pro can do just about everything you want, and I think it is a great program.
Lightwave 6 is a more advanced program because of the massive amount of control you can do -- meaning hours and hours of meticulious control that is annoying as hell. One of my friends works over here by me at Pixar and he spends hours working on that thing... &%@* crazy.
I would say for what you are doing, use Strata. It's a powerful program, with a nice learning curve that can do just about anything that Lightwave can do. Start off with Strata -- it's cheaper (alllooootttt cheaper, and it doesn't need one of those key plugs that goes in the back of your computer -- unless you know how to hack those things) and very powerful... and many people, like me, prefer to use Strata and stay far away from Lightwave whenever possible.
A couple years ago when I did designs for Snap-On, they requested that we use Strata -- if you want to view what it can do, there's a couple images here for the old company I worked for in Chicago. Go to fricknet.com (http://www.fricknet.com) - on their jump menu, scroll to the bottom to graphic design. You'll see some 3D stuff we did that was very cool, and much quicker than Lightwave.
By all means, if you want to play with Lightwave later on, go ahead. But I would say use Strata -- I prefer it.

just i said point,
If you have the best tools but can't use them well it is little use. If you have the second best tool and can use it very well, it will be more uesful than the best tool.
no matter what software you have it can be your skills that limit you.

PS. I'm not saying you have no or bad skills.
