New site, preventing duplicate content from old site

Hi all.

I have a relatively young site (site A) which has been indexed by google. Sadly due to a change in company names, I have had to create a newer site (site B) with a different URL but which has exactly the same content.

Before I submit site B to google, what is the best way to avoid being penalised for duplicate content? Do I need to alter the robot text on site A?

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated as always.

You could set a permanent redirect(with 301 status) from site A to site B via .htaccess file.

I've done a permanent redirect via the hosting company and all seems to be working.

I have also submitted sitemap to Google and am awaiting indexing. Should I remove all the content from site A?

Should I remove all the content from site A? Not required. Just keep it as a backup and no one would see it as long as that 301 redirect is there.
