Hi
I am about to buy a new computer and I don't know how I will transfer all of my stuff from this machine (running win2000) to my new machine (running win7) ?
I would really appreciate some advice.
Thanks

Wow! Win2k to Win7 your better off manually moving everything over. Get an external hard drive and copy your desktop, my documents and you should be fine. FYI some of your programs may not work in win7 so be prepared for that.

Are you saying that win2k is better than win7 ?

I think sentril was trying to get that since you are making about a 10 year leap forward in operating systems, if you have old versions of some programs, they may not work properly in Windows 7. I wouldn't be too worried about that, cross that bridge when you come to it.
I don't know how much of Vista or 7 you've used but if you haven't used it much be prepared for a transition period, stuff has been changed and moved around since Windows 2000.
Is your new computer going to have Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit? If you have any really old hardware, like 10 year old printer, there might not be Windows 7 drivers either, just FYI.

Thanks oracleguy that's very interesting and informative. The new one will be 64 bit and I don't have any 'really' old hardware. I have never used another OS other than win2K

Seriously? Is it going to be a large transition when I move from my 98se box? I love that box....
As for ghost:

The only thing I can add is ensure that you're pulling any ACL you have off of you're files. I seem to recall a mess that I made awhile ago with... winXPMC where I pulled the files with the ACL's. What a mess that was getting them back on >.<. I would presume ghost does that as well, I know our service desk at work uses it to image all of their machines.

Yes, you'll lose the most critical part about your 98 install... You won't be able to play SimTower anymore because it is a 16-bit app. :p

Unless Ghost has changed, it won't move programs over, it is designed to clone drives which isn't what the OP wants.
