Hello,

I'm just messing around a bit and I'm looking for any tips/hints/tutorials to create a vintage movie poster effect, a bit in the 50's-60's drawn style.

Example:

Anyone by any change got any links to a tutorial? Been Googling around but can't seem to find what I want.

you should check out http://www.webdesignerdepot.com and http://www.smashingmagazine.com (http://smashingmagazine.com) I recollect one of them doing a vintage poster article.

1. Get an old paper texture (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=old+paper+texture&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8)

2. If you are using real photos, you will need a lot of processing. Filters such as "poster edges" and "cutout" (with high edge fidelity) will help you achieve this. Increase the contrast. Duplicate the layer, and run a high pass filter, then set it to overlay. Try oyut different filters to help you achieve that older hand drawn style. The pictures used in that one you posted are actually hand drawn.

3. Use large, blocky fonts. Even better, stretch your fonts out vertically

4. Erase certain sections with grunge brushes (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=grunge+brushes+photoshop&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) set on very low opacity

Hope that helps!
