View Full Version : Browser test resources?

My site doesn't degrade well in NN 4 - doesn't crossover well in IE for PC - and Opera made it all funky... but that 1% I can live without.

Anyone know where I can find 1) a program that will test my target browser better than DreamWeaver's &^$%# or 2) the developer resources for both of these?

Google gave me a million searchs that were not relative... thanks!!:D

um, short of just downloading each browser?
Netscape offers downloads of all their browsers, opera can emulate text browsers too.

as far as IE

Downloading isn't going to fly on my Mac:) ... atleast for every program.

I was looking more for some troubleshooting pointers that are online resources. Sorry if not too specific

Missed your post before this. It seems to make my post pretty invalid...my bad! :o

Evolt.org has a massive browser archive located here: http://browsers.evolt.org/ . You can download many many browsers and test your pages locally if you wish.

Another alternative is to find friends that have different browsers/os's to test for you. A lot of people here have a lot of browsers installed on their systems and would be more than happy to help in testing your site.

I also think that there is a website out there that will process your page as if it were on a mac, take a snapshot of that page, and then show you what it looks like. Unfortunatly this costs money....I don't really remember the site either...maybe someone else will.

Of course all these solutions ('cept that website) recquire you to download browsers which can get to be a pain when you have umpteen different browsers to keep track of. One solution might be to take an old system of yours and make it into a testing platform...I wish I had a system to do this with....

For DOM scripting you'll find some very good compatibility info at http://www.xs4all.nl/~ppk/js/index.html?version5.html

Last year (later I think). Forgive me but I cannot remember the name of the thread but the guy who's company it was/is gave us his user name and password so we could access the site and get images of how our website looks in many many different browsers. Can anyone recall this too. I'm not going made as I remember having a go with the site and it was V cool. No need to download browsers and it was quick and easy.

I think you would be best downloading the browsers.

I am not on fast internet either ( 56K  ) but I still have:

Netscape 4
Netscape 7
Opera 7
IE 6 (standard)

And it took me a while to get them all. But it was worth it. :D

I'll have to go and have some people test whats going on -- I have Mac NN4, NN7, IE 5, Opera 7 -- but no access to a PC... don't feel bad, I need a test computer too:(

If I have people test my site on here, where should I post this so that I abide by the rules?

If you want people to look at your site, you should post in general web building.
