If you visit my homesite (In my signature) and select "In the middle of the above."; you will see that the image of me (YUK!) is off centre.
I want to use Fireworks to superimpose the jpeg (Web19.jpg) in to a transparent background to centre the image up. 800x600 image on top of 800x800 transparent background.

I have not been able to find a way to do this. Any help gratefully received.:D

What do you mean by “transparent background”? Do you mean some semi-transparent background (rectangle)?

Sorry VIP. I want to make the vertical picture which is w. 600 h 800 into 800 square in order to centre it. without altering the image ratio. I think that I can superimpose it on a suitable rectangular backgound and save the result as a single jpg, png or gif it will centre the image for me.
Unfortunately, I have not found a way to do it. It doesn't really matter whether the background is transparent or white. Just as long he extra background is not visible to the eye.

You don’t need a graphic for that. You can just insert it into a div which is 800 wide and high and apply text-align: center to the div.

Alternatively you can just have an 800800 canvas in Fireworks (Modify > Canvas > Canvas Size), import the image there and center it on the canvas, and export it like that. Then you basically have an 800800 image.

Thanks VIP.

As you may have already guessed, the program was written for me and uses Javascript to handle the selection.

My Javascript knowledge is to say the most very redumentary so I really do not know how to use the css with it. Thus I have settled for the second option and thank you foryour help. As always completely understandable.

See what you think of it now.
