I'm having some problems with a network between router and desktop..
The router is working fine as i am using the wireless for posting.
The computer hasn't been signed an address by the network..
clicking details brings up a physical address, IP address and subnet mask but leave empty the default gateway, DNS server and WINS server..
I tried running a couple of netsh commands to try and fix it but unseccessfull
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Rafiki

What ipaddress is it giving you? Is it one you've never seen before? Like 164 or something?

Sometimes it doesn't return an address.. (hasn't since i posted)
I tried manually setting it to 192.168.0.2 (router is 0.1, laptop is 0.2) but this didn't work either, i set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway to the same one as my laptop uses

Here is the ipconfig /ALL from my laptop

You have DHCP enabled and you have an IP address: 192.168.0.3 which would have been assigned by your router. You have your gateway and DNS IP's set to your router address of 192.168.0.1 which is fine. When you say the IP's aren't being assigned how are you determining that? Are you able to connect to your wireless network and access the Internet at this point? With DHCP enabled for your wireless connection you can try opening up a command prompt and running these 2 commands:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

This should send a request to your routers DHCP server to get a new IP address. If it does not give you a new IP then I would begin looking at your router settings.

Sorry spookster, that was from my laptop's CMD, the trouble is the LAN fom desktop.
I will try release/renew tomorrow and see what happens, also my ipod takes up the 02 IP when connected..

You didn't mention has this desktop ever successfully been connected to this network or has this just started happening?

When you say your Ipod uses 192.168.0.2 when connected is this a manually defined IP in the Ipod? If so has this IP been excluded from the IP range in your routers DHCP server? That can cause conflicts on your network if the DHCP server attempts to assign that IP to another device on the network when your Ipod is already using it. With certain routers you can reserve or exclude specific IP's or a range of IP's when using DHCP so that conflicts don't occur.

You should make sure your cable is connected properly to your box. Does the network drop on your desktop? Check any firewall or antivirus software and disable it.
