I have a WP theme I downloaded for free online. I made a significant amount of changes to the theme it no longer looks like the old one.

I was trying to compress the style sheet to reduce its size but when ever I remove the credits in the beginning of the sheet the theme does not function.

Some sort of encryption somewhere in the theme?

Unlikely, but you're very likely breaking copyright laws. Please make sure you have permission from the author to delete the credits--then we'll help you.

The credit will be given the on the actually site "powered by wp designed by ** modified by ** etc."

I am just trying to minimize the overall size of the theme for faster page loads. It's a work in progress.

There are certain meta data in a WP stylesheet that are required. For example, my friend's stylesheet starts as so:

@charset "utf-8";
/*
Theme Name: In Lara’s World
Theme URI: http://in-mundo-larissae.co.uk/
Description: miaaow!
Version: 2.0
Author: Cyan-Light
Author URI: http://cyan-light.co.uk/
*/

Thanks for the info.

I just removed this, compressed the style sheet and updated the theme via themes under appearance in the dashboard.
