I do that, and my old total of 9 errors jumps to 13 errors. Does the number of errors always correlate positively with the percent of total code in error? i.e. is it possible that with this change there is less of an overall problem with the code taken as a whole, and that just a few more tiny insignificant errors have arisen which don't really amount to much? Hope I'm communicating effectively to you here.

that's because are 13 not 9, :)
if the correct way to close a cdata section is , why do you change it back to ]] which is obvious incorrect?

the number of the errors is not relevant, just fix what you see that is wrong and when you are finish will be no error.

btw,
must be replaced
, :)

I didn't post the sites which I should have:

this one (http://users.rcn.com/**************/test66.html) has 9 errors and uses ]]

this one (http://users.rcn.com/**************/test67.html) has 13 errors and uses

no other changes have been made.

yes, it's just natural to assume the 9 will drop to at least 8 errors, and certainly not rise, after an error has been fixed, you know??

btw,
must be replaced
, :)

I am not sure why. This site (http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_br.asp) tells me, "In HTML the
tag has no end tag."

continue with the 13 errors version and forget about other, :)
the errors now are pretty clear:
-
must be
, lines 113, 119
- missing alt, multiple times, use alt=""
- line 164, add a attribute type="text/javascript"
- line 123, move ';' inside style or remove it
the page is almost valid now, :)

yes the site is right, but you don't use html, you use xhtml transitional, see the doctype, :)

many thanks. I've made all those changes but *still* have ten (http://users.rcn.com/**************/test67.html).

why doesn't this read: <!DOCTYPE xhtml PUBLIC instead of <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC to indicate xhtml? how do you know its xhtml?

most of them are missing trailing slash, <img .... > must be <img ... />.
also you must remove " from this:

<img height="20" src="images/menu.png" alt="" "width="924" width="924" />

I don't understand the question. If you ask why is xhtml then the answer is: you decide to use one instead of other when you put the doctype there.
If you ask what is better to use, then will have a war, :)
I prefere xhtml strict, what is good for you I really can't answer, depend of many things, :)

sorry if I was unclear. I'm just wondering how you knew it was XHTML. When I created the file in expression web it was listed "html" and I see no indication within the file as it stands that it is of the type, "xhtml."

thanks for the validation tips. Now its error free!

seems that this is configured to insert a xhtml transition doctype on the top of the file and that also explain why do you have a BOM, :)
I prefere a good text editor, :)

thanks for the validation tips.
you are welcome, :)

seems that you finish the validation, :)
