When I had '98 or ME I got that error alot, but now I run win2k and I don't get it very often at all. I think it is just an error with IE on that OS. Maybe its a memory leak or something since '98 was really bad with them.

Getting rid off win98 would solve the problem, and make you a much happier computer user.
Till then, make sure that not only IE6, but office, visual studio and any other MS products are nice and up-to-date with patches and service packs.

Checking for all updates to Win98 and IE as suggested is a good idea but you might also want to check and make sure you haven't got one or more of the scourges of the web like Gator installed silently reporting all your activity to their headquarters. That spyware could be running and is often flaky (good developers wouldn't have to work for scum like Gator). Look for some software like AdAware to check your system and flush out any such spyware.

Is it just me or do I sense some *pauses for effect* resentment towards Gator... ;)

No resentment, it's more like extreme dislike. Resentment would indicate I have some history with them but I never installed their code though they've tried to get into my machine a few times.

I had a problem with GATOR.When I tried to remove it, it wouldn't go.The uninstall, add-remove programs, and seach and delete all gave me error messages.
For months I had that damn Gator icon staring at me!
One day I tried transferring it to my briefcase. It went. From there I was able to skin the SOB.
Thats one of the biggies I look out for when loading bundles.

I had a similar problem, I found that it was running some stupid prog in the bg so I did a <ctrl><alt><delete> on it and once that was gone it left my computer quick fast and in a hurry...
