My company is going to start building a lot of CMS sites. I am trying to decide whether to go with custom builds, open source CMS or a framework. I want the admin panel to be customizable. Any suggestions? Thanks

try JOOMLA, DOTNETNUKE, DRUPAL, MAMBO
Wordpress is beginning to take hold as an effective CMS thanks to the use of plugins. Check it out, it's open source and plugins can change the admin area (or you can, by editing the files.)
http://wordpress.org for self-hosted open-source version.

I have used Wordpress and it is very good but I am looking for something a bit more robust. Thanks:)

CMS Made Simple (http://cmsmadesimple.org). That’s as flexible and extensible as it can get.

Open Source CMS' like Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress are pretty good when compared to others :-) we are a web development company using these 3 CMSs as main platform for developing websites for the past 5 years :-) I am 101% sure about this, these are very well feasible for you in all techie freaks..
Thanks,
Abi

I suggest you use Joomla or Magento for your websites.

Yes. Wordpress has many features including a user-friendly workflow, a rich plugin architecture, and a templating system. Although we are using Umbraco, (an open source web application framework written in C# for the ASP.NET) I think for most web content uploads (if you will have writers or content editors), wordpress is much better.
You can also check out Umbraco:

The Official Umbraco Website

Umbraco Community Site - The Official Umbraco Community site (Documentation/Forums/Code Projects)
It can do anything you can imagine too.. :)
