1) Project Details: (be as specific as possible): Seeking a coder that is capable of building the infrastructure of a social (not quite networking) site from the ground up, including a fully functional CMS and forums. The primary content of the site includes custom uploaded photos, and our coder must be fluent in CSS and frames (frames used sparingly, but with importance). Also important to the site will be items for collection, so having the ability to code a mini-gambling and trading system within the site will be required.

2) Payment Amount: That's what I'm here to find out.

3) Payment method/ details (Paypal, check? Timeline?): Paypal or check. We are still consulting on what is an appropriate time-line, but suffice to say a few months.

4) Additional Info (about project or potential bidders): We are looking for someone who we can trust to keep in contact with over the long haul as we upgrade our site over time.

Important Features
* CMS - A customized, secure Content Management System that includes the ability to hand off tiers of access to staff.
* Profiles - Users will require the ability to create, and edit their own user profile.
* Private Messaging - Users need to be able to send private messages to one another.
* Forums - Fully integrated and tiered forum system (more details as needed, in one word: robust)
* Image Spectrum - Users have to be able to upload, rate, favorite and comment on images presented by users on the site.
* Site Currency - Users will require a currency system on the site that will be used to reward, and fully engage members.
* Trade System - Users will require a trade system of sorts, allowing them to buy, sell and trade collected items on the site with one another by way of the site currency.
* Referral System - A referral system will be needed to allow users to earn site currency through recommending a friend.

Extra Notes: Design direction will be handled almost entirely on our end. We will provide the blueprint if you can set down the mortar. If you are also capable of designing an aesthetically appealing outfit to match your coding (in essence, handling both the exterior and the interior of development) then please state so when sending your quote. Right now, the estimations we are looking for exist outside of artistic know-how to pretty-up the functions.

We will be receiving consultation on this project on Tuesday the 22nd. So no commitments can be made until after this date. We will take serious consideration to offering up shares for the site as part of payment, provided we find what we are looking for in a long-term coder. As it stands, we are speaking of strictly money.

Please send samples of your work related to some of our important features

If you can only do some of this, but are still interested, please let me know your price. We may end up delegating workload to quicken launch.

We'll have a better idea of our budget after Tuesday after we receive consultation. Our initial target was in the $3,000 range, but it could be more, or could be less depending on the advice we receive and the concepts we might decide to scale back on for launch.

alternatively (hate doing this but....)

download (purchase) vbulletin with portal system (version 4 i think) or grab a 3.xx range copy and use vbadvanced portal.

then download and install all the gaming addons etc for free from www.vbulletin.org for your shops/items/xp etc etc.

costs about $160

What are the big draw backs to doing this, if any?

time to familiarise yourself with the vb template system and then developing any custom plugins/products needed to enhance the basic functionality to features you want.

vb is fairly complex/hefty code so doing stuff takes time but there's plenty of experts to hire on thesubject on the previously linked forums who'll charge a few hundred dollars a pop to write plugins etc for you.

there's the yearly license fee but thats good because you also get security updates and new features included in that so you don't have to support the product inhouse.

then it just becomes a case of finding a html/css/image guy to design a custom skin and implement it into the template engine.

all of this is cheaper than the few thousand it'd cost you to write something from scratch.

I'm al little rusty on my vBulletin but according to my vBulletin proficient contacts, the new version 4 makes use of an entirely new template engine, now that may or may not be an advantage in this situation but apparently the price has also gone up to $400 (or did they give upon that scam). Anyways for a professionally done site I would really recommend on using an IPB forum which can cover:

* CMS - A customized, secure Content Management System that includes the ability to hand off tiers of access to staff.
* Profiles - Users will require the ability to create, and edit their own user profile.
* Private Messaging - Users need to be able to send private messages to one another.
* Forums - Fully integrated and tiered forum system (more details as needed, in one word: robust)
* Image Spectrum - Users have to be able to upload, rate, favorite and comment on images presented by users on the site.

* Trade System - Users will require a trade system of sorts, allowing them to buy, sell and trade collected items on the site with one another by way of the site currency.
* Referral System - A referral system will be needed to allow users to earn site currency through recommending a friend.

the rest can be installed as plugins or custom coding. Overall using the IPB system you could drop the cost to $500 - $1500 depending on custom options, templating, intergration of other software, etc.

ibp is an option but personally I've never rated it as a forum system

smf (simple machines) is also perfectly possible as is phpbb3

I just picked vb because I have experience of doing what he wanted already and knew it did alot of it out of the can :) vb 4 is $285 for a new license which with exchange rate for me (being UK) makes it about 180 yay :)

Hello, i have read your job offer, For some but not all of my previous work please visit my portfolio at http://iHolyElement.org/.
I can develop and code the following languages, CSS, HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, PHP, MyQSL along with using Fireworks, Illustrator and Photoshop for designing graphics. In the past i have worked for some major companies in the US ranging from developing eCommerce systems, CMS, Job Bidding systems, Dating Systems to plain HTML/CSS Websites. For what your asking i would quote around $2700 - $4500 (USD)
Which will include a custom CMS, User Profiles, Private & Public Messaging, Forums, Admin Panel, Image Spectrum(s), Money/Site Currency, Trading system, Referral system. Now i can do this all, About the design, I would preview if i designed it because i would use Stanard XHTML/CSS With my own graphics which would make it more easyer for me to code the back-end, I have had previous work like what you asking but not all of those features in the one enviroment, If you pick me to do this project we can discuss more via email and we can nail down a more solid quote/price. I have had 4 years experiance in this area with high qualifications, It would take me about 4 to 6 weeks to fully complete this, i will be in this industy for a long time so if you do pick me for this project i will be able to continually help you throughout the years when you need to update or change something on the project.

About the person who told you about vBulletin, personialy i dont agree with him, i dont think it would be a good idea to use vBulletin for what you want, it wont offer all the features you want, but if thats the path you want to take then you can.

I look forward to working with you.

Cheers,
iHolyElement
