View Full Version : Real easy questions: How can I edit the theme through my WP dashboard?

Hi Please answer at least one of the following, it'd make a BIG DIFFERENCE
So I uploaded this theme on my site theclubpenguincheats.com
As you can see, the Pages Links go on to the next line so that the black background won't fall behind it, so
1. How can I edit the .php files so it extends down below? And is it possible the reduce the font for them?
2. How do I remove the Twitter and RSS feed things from the sidebar?
3. Can I somehow add a picture/banner as the foreground to my site's header?
4. How do I add a sidebar to the lefthand side of the blog?

You can edit the PHP files with any plain text editor (NOT a writing program such as OpenOffice or MS Word) or a more advanced code editor. However, you don’t want to edit the PHP files, you’d want to edit the CSS files to change the look (styles). This can usually be done with the same program(s) as for the PHP files. Alternatively you can edit the files/tempates from within the admin panel. In the side navigation go to Appearance > Themes (or something like that, don’t remember exactly right now) and there you can edit your themes.
Go into sidebar.php (or what the template is named) and remove the relevant HTML.
Yes, you can do whatever you want. Just go into header.php and change the HTML to your liking.
This is a little more advanced since it requires a new template (file) for the left sidebar and then changes in the page templates where you want to have the left sidebar appear, and some CSS changes to change the look of the pages (column width etc.).
http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_Files may have some more info for you. Generally, Wordpress has a really good documentation that helps you if you have questions. You just have to know what to search for.

Well, we’re certainly here to help but we’re not here to do somebody’s work. I have a pretty clear opinion about this: If you want to have a website then you should basically know what you have to do or – if you don’t know – pay someone to do it for you. Otherwise just don’t try to maintain a website in the first place. Of course you don’t have to know everything because then there wouldn’t be any reason to ask a question here but a little effort from your side shows that you have at least some intermediate knowledge.
As I said: Before asking for help do a search on the internet. Wordpress happens to have a really good documentation that explains almost everything. And if that’s too advanced for you (yet) then it would probably better to put your request into the paid projects forum. The time it takes to explain you what to do (and effectively doing it for you) would earn someone like me about €50 (72 US$).
