Uh, yeah that was me!

Just wanted to see how you'd handle the request. Hope your're not mad, you handled it quite well in my opinion.

I'd like to get a quote on a website design.
Can you set up hosting and domain and transfer to my company?
Also can you design under a budget of $30 000 US dollars?

We will require the works for our growing business which specialize in sales and service of computer parts.

Thankyou for your time,
Michael Small

That was the original message, the reply is on my other computer.
It was simply a test, I was just about to send you a reply telling you but I noticed this thread.

IMO you conducted yourself in a very professional manner, but you didn't have contact details on your footer of your reply.

You asked me for more information so as to narrow the broadness of my request and all.:):D

Question about your services,

... what can you do?

PHP, ASP/ASP.NET, CGI, Perl, JSP/J2EE, Javascript, Flash, Director ...etc..

I was going to ask you straight up for a medium sized database backend site but decided to take a small step first.

I meant like you register hosting and domain in "my company's" name.. So that you don't own it but "my company" would.

Dood...That was waaaaaay over the top.

FYI, there's a very old scam that's been going on for about 2 years where the webmaster receives a similar letter saying a "company" needs a site built for $25,000. It goes into a long song and dance with the webmaster then asked to send $79.95 to get the ball rolling as "insurance" that the job will be completed. After several months of inquiry, the webmaster finds his money has long been withdrawn and the "company" has closed it's bank account. The scammer just reopens another account every few months..no worries.

The guy's probably laffin' his head off on a beach in Hawaii. :p

Pay as an insurance the work will be done? You must be kidding !!
Like i would pay each first day of the month to ensure my employer i'll be comming to work !!!

I've done quite some outsourced projects and we just draw up a fixed time - fixed price contract with the firm (the developpers). They get paid after the work is done. If it's not done on time, they get an penalty. If they need money upfront, there out.

A large job should never be closed by mail. They'll contact some firms, ask for proposals (both functional as financial) and then assign the contract to one of them.
